Sheila Turner - Independent Living Rehabilitation Teacher

Sheila Turner, Independent Living Rehabilitation Teacher

Sheila has a long history with the Edith Bishel Center.  She began as a volunteer, served on the Board of Directors for 2 years and for the past 19 years she has served as the Independent Living/Rehabilitation Teacher.  Sheila has lived most of her life in the Tri-Cities.  She is a graduate of Columbia Basin College and Washington State University’s Richland campus.  She currently serves on the Washington State Independent Living Council and the Washington State Rehabilitation Council for the Blind.

Sheila’s mother was legally blind and was an advocate and role model for Sheila growing up.  She taught Sheila how to stand up for herself and to undertake anything she wanted to.  As a blind woman and mother of 3, Sheila has tried to pass on these strengths to not only her children, but her clients as well.

Sheila currently works in and travels to 6 eastern Washington counties serving a diverse and growing population of individuals who are blind and visually impaired.
